Iliopsoas Tendinitis Etiology / Epidemiology / Natural History
Anterior iliopsoas impingement can cause groin pain and functional disability after total hip arthroplasty.

Iliopsoas Tendinitis Clinical Evaluation
- Groin pain with or without snapping over the anterior hip.
- Pain is exacerbated by hip ROM and resistive hip flexion.
- Pain with stair climbing, anterior goin pain with straight leg raising.
- Tenderness over iliopsoas tendon.
Iliopsoas Tendinitis Xray / Diagnositc Tests
- A/P pelvis, A/P and lateral of affected hip generally normal.
- Dynamic ultrasound can confirm snapping of iliopsoas tendon if present.
- MRI generally indicated to rule out other pathologic conditions.
- Consider confirmatory diagnostic injection.
Iliopsoas Tendinitis Classification / Treatment
- Rest, activity modifications, avoidance of snapping, stretching and strengthening of the ioliopsoas and iliotibial band, and NSAIDs.
- Surgical treatment: release or resection of the iliopsoas tendon, alone or in combination with acetabular revision for an anterior overhanging component.
