•  Typically caused by overload of the lesser MTP joints.

•  50% of the forefoot weight bearing load is carried by the great toe/1st MTP joint/1st metatarsal. 50% is carried by the second third fourth and fifth metatarsals.

•  Weight-bearing AP, lateral and oblique views of the foot.  Generally normal.
• MRI: generally demonstrates soft tissue swelling and effusion around the MTP joints +/- bone bruising in the metatarsal head.
